Title: Student Reactions to Misjudgments during Technology Education

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine student cognitive reactions to misjudgments and troubleshooting in their technological activities. We conducted a survey on 492 junior high school students, and analyzed the relationships among their consciousness, experiences and motivation. The resulting main findings were as follows.
1) Students, who do not have enough experiences of technological activities, thought that lack of skill was the main reason for their difficulties.
2) Students intent on avoiding errors became more determined when they did in fact err.
3) Conversely, students who thought that they were not concerned about making mistakes in their activities became less motivated after errors.
These findings suggest that although it was verified that both groups possessed sufficient skill to troubleshoot and succeed, there was diversity in the students' mental reactions to misjudgment. Technology educators can support student troubleshooting based on the reactions revealed in this research. It is especially important to understand how to assist students who have negative and passive attitudes to troubleshooting in technology education.

Abstract
I hope even a junior high school student can bend wood safely and easily in the area of "technology and manufacturing" in Technology Education classes. Therefore, I developed "A steam box" and "A former". Junior high school students use "A steam box" and "A former", and then I made works of bentwood in Technology Education classes that was offered as the selected subject. I also developed another device for objectively and accurately measuring the reaction of wood against human force applied to bend it, and examine the significance of the results.
These devices assist students in understanding the properties of wood, such as its strength in relation to the direction of its fibers, and its reactions to applied water and force. Using "bentwood" as a teaching material will improve the ability of students to discover and implement new ideas which will enhance their progress and eagerness for studying.

Abstract
A training material for experiencing the reuse and recycling of resources is developed for junior high school technology classes. Common industrial waste of crushed-stone powder at rock crushing factories are chosen as initial materials, and ways to utilize them are examined.
Crushed-stone powders are easily classified according to their particle
size by sedimentation, and 60% of the finer components can be used as clay.
The clay can be formed by slurry casting and densely sintering at around
1400 K. Since the whole process is simple and can be performed at conventional
facilities, it is applicable to teaching materials at junior high schools.

Abstract
In the study of "Information and Computer" programs and measurement/control, after manufacturing autonomous mobile robots by themselves, students devised models to solve familiar tasks. Additionally, a curriculum for the creation and control of purpose-specific programs was developed. Through this study, the students were able to deepen their understanding of program functions and measurement/control and relate these skills to their personal experiences and requirements.

Abstract
In this paper, syllabuses of problem and learning methods were planned with an autonomous type robot as a teaching material appropriate for learning mechanisms and technology of computerized instruments. Using the syllabuses, the lesson practice was carried out for a required subject in a junior high school. In the programming learning, a basic processing of the program can be learned multifariously through the making experience of three kinds of programs. In the measurement/control learning, sequence control and feedback control can be learned through various problems. The technique for controlling the autonomous robot can be learned through these learning. In addition, the problem solution learning and progressive task-based learning for measurement/ control were done in the lesson practice. Then the improvement of learning willingness and to acquire knowledge/understanding have been observed.

Abstract
In this report, a doll carrying a tea cup and a carrier pointing to the south were made experimentally. In addition, practical classes using them were performed in order to examine the interest of junior high school students and the adaptability as teaching materials.
The following facts have been identified. The doll carrying a tea cup and the carrier pointing to the south are effective pedagogical instruments that evoke student interest. The doll carrying a tea cup is effective for learning of mechanics of several motions. The carrier pointing to the south is useful as a trial teaching material.

Abstract
We investigated the effect on the learning of control programs in Technology education class for junior high school students in two ways using news concerning an elevator accident. We compared the students' understanding of the news before and after the lessons. We then compared the understanding of the accident news between two groups^ one which had experienced the lessons and the other which had not, and found a significant difference indicating that the lessons on control programming led to improved student comprehension of the controlled object in news concerning a control system accident.
