Title: The Examination of the Teaching Method for Educating Students' Ability to Saw by Using the Measuring Instrument

Abstract

It is possible to typify the ability to use a saw to some extent if we use the following marking items: the velocity required to move the saw and to adjust force when we pull and push the saw. The purpose of this research was to sort students into groups based on the idea that they should improve, and then apply an effective teaching method according the situation of each group.
I proposed teaching methods appropriate for each group, and then I introduced a measuring instrument into the class that was used to develop students' ability to saw and I examined its effect. As a result, I could see marked improvements in saw shuttle velocity and I also could see a significant difference compared to conventional teaching methods. As to the adjustment of force when students pull and push the saw, I did not observe a significant difference, but more students met standard level than before. Accordingly I conclude that the teaching method I suggested had an effect on improving students' ability to use a saw.

Abstract

We describe a control board for an autonomous mobile arm-equipped robot that we have developed and evaluate it as a teaching material. Using our control board and the programming language " Dolittle " in technology education, students were able to learn systems that work with mechanics, electricity and computers through an integration of manufacturing and programming. Thus, we established a curriculum for junior high school students to learn the systems we wanted to teach with an autonomous mobile arm-equipped robot as teaching material. In this paper, a test conducted to evaluate our lessons in junior high school is reported. As a result, our robots and technology education curriculum satisfy the requirement for students to have more incentive to learn the concept of systems.

Title: Development of an Awareness Scale for Learning about Intellectual Property in Technology Education

Abstract

In this study, we aimed at developing an awareness scale for learning about intellectual property in technology education. First, we prepared 40 items based on an investigation of students' consciousness of intellectual property. Using these items, we carried out an investigation with 1 ,085 junior high students in five junior high schools spread over four prefectures. As a result of factor analysis, five factors were extracted as follows: F l , recognition of the value of sharing ideas; F2, eagerness to engage in creative activities; F3, attitude toward copyrights; F4, interest in inventing; and F5, respect for intellectual property. Furthermore, we selected the items carefully through cluster analysis. Finally, five factors including 1 9 items were developed as an awareness scale for intellectual property learning.

Abstract

A steam turbine car is developed as a teaching material for industrial arts and home economics classes for lower secondary students. The steam turbine car is designed so that students can learn both metal working, in which they use galvanized sheets and copper pipes, and energy conversion, which makes motive energy from heat energy. As an evaluation test, we checked the steam pressure and conversion efficiency of the Steam Turbine Car that we developed as a teaching material. Additionally, we conducted experimental lessons for lower secondary students to check educational effects of our teaching material. As a result, the teaching material we developed is predictably effective for students to learn both metal working and energy conversion.

Title: Effect of Vibration on the Nucleation Behavior of Water Droplets under Transient Superheated Conditions

Abstract

This paper presents an experimental study of the ebullition process of superheated water droplets under conditions of vibration. In this study, the effect of vibration and filtering of water on the disintegration of water droplets due to ebullition was examined during test runs under transient superheated conditions. It was clarified from this study that the nucleation rate of superheated water droplets under transient superheated conditions during test runs increased with the increase of vibration intensity, namely the product of the frequency and amplitude of vibration, and increased with the increase of the product of vibration intensity and the square of pore size of membrane filter for filtering water during the experiments.

Abstract

In recent years, Project-Based Learning (PBL) has been spotlighted for its high educational effect. Therefore this PBL was applied to hardware logic design on a trial basis. Hardware logic design is one of the compulsory subjects for year 3 students in our department. The goal of this subject is learning how to design 4-bits CPU in seven weeks. Most students were satisfied with this new method of teaching and this challenge produced significant educational benefits.
