Title:Rotation Error caused by Backlash in 2K-H Type Planetary Gear Mechanism
Author:Minoru TANAKA Michihiko TANAKA Mitsuo KOBAYASHI

Planetary gear trains are widely used in the transmission devices of automobile from the viewpoint of compact arrangement of the system by distributing the load among planetary gears that have a motion composed of a rotation about own axis and a revolution about the axis of the sun gears. In planetary gear train, a small amount of backlash can not be avoidable due to some errors in machining, and this backlash causes the transmission error in switching from forward to backward rotation. For the determination of backlash in planetary gear trains, it is necessary to sum the back lash of each gears consisting the train.
In this paper, the authors present a new simple method for calculating total amount of backlash in planetary gear train.

Key Words: Planetary gear train, rotation error, backlash, 2-KH train

Title:Experimental Study of Ozone Micro-bubble Oxidation Treatment for Organic Soil Pollutants
Author:Noboru FUJIMOTO

Experiments were carried out to treat organic soil pollutants using a liquid-waste treatment system with ozone micro-bubbles.
Results revealed that with supply ozone at 5.3g/h, oxidization decomposition of high concentration Thiuram at 1300 times the environmental standard is possible within 1 minute, and that of the generated by products within 30 minutes. Further, with supply ozone at 5g/h, assuming initial response of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to be a first-order reaction, the values of the first-order rate constant for Dichloromethane, Trichloroethylene, and Tetrachloroethylene were calculated to be 0.929, 2.51, and 2.45 [s-1] respectively.
These experiments opened up the possibility of developing a treatment system that is relatively moderate in cost compared to existing treatment technologies for soil pollutants.

Key words : Ozone, Soil Pollution, Organic Soil Treatment, Volatile Organic Compound

Title:Development and Evaluation of Patent Study Support System
Author:Isamu YAMAMOTO Tomonari SAEKI Mikako WAKAE

For the teachers training for the areas of technology/home economics education who have not received enough training to teach patents to student, we have developed Patent Education Assistance System (PEAS), which supports patent learning adopted in object-making education. The PEAS consists of a program for patent learning assistance, a program for invention specification writing assistance, a program for IPDL learning assistance, a program for patent specification understanding assistance, a patent diagnosis program, a program for patent application learning assistance, a program for specification writing assistance and a program of technical terms dictionary. The developed PEAS was practiced for evaluation at the flceda middle school attached to Osaka Education University. It was taught as an optional course for the technology area of technology/home economics. Each program was received evaluation rating higher than "easy to learn" ,indicating its effectiveness in assisting students to learn.

Key words : Object-making Education, Patent Study, Technical Area within Technology/Home Economics Education.

Title:Analysis of Teaching Aids of Actively Composed Image Content and Their Influence on Students' Content Discernment
Author:Akinobu ANDO Hiraku ABIKO Makoto KINEFUCHI Takashi TORII Kazunari MORIMOTO

We developed teaching materials (web pages) that included many images taken by digital cellular phones. Three types of image sets were used - those using pictures all taken by a student (including ones of themselves), those using pictures all taken by other students (excluding ones of themselves) and those using pictures prepared by a teacher beforehand.
The results showed that the group of students who looked at pictures including ones of themselves had higher "interest & concern", "comprehension & understanding", "concentration" and deeper "understanding" of content. There was also a reduction in students' stress. In addition, from the result of a follow-up test we grasped a fundamental of discernment ability in study effectiveness. Content that was dynamically (participatorily) composed received higher discernment and students who had had lowest levels of comprehension and understanding showed the highest effectiveness results.

Key words : actively composed images, discernment ability, immediacy, digital-contents, task confirmation, mobile-phone camera

Title:Development and Evaluation of Technology a Teacher-Training Program for Robot Production Learning
Author:Hiroyuki MURAMATSU Hidetoshi TAKENO

We developed, in the main for technology teacher's of shallow technology studies for robot production learning, a technology teacher-training program of a participatory experience nature consisting of the three steps of lecture, cooperative practice, and product sharing. The training program was practiced in teacher training programs in both Mie and Okayama prefectures, and seventeen responses were analyzed. We confirmed the probability for effectiveness of the training program to meet the present state of rapidly spreading robot production learning in junior high schools. It also was clearly shown that in the content of robot production learning, the areas of electric circuitry, electric circuit elements, circuit diagrams, movement transmission, elements of machinery and technology assessment need to be made unambiguously clear to instructors.

Key words : Teacher-Training Program, Robot Contest, Robot Production, Participatory Experience

"It's great that it came out just as I wanted it." "It took a lot of hard work to make it, so I want it put to good use." These are the remarks of some students upon completing their final industrial arts project. I want to turn out students who enjoy making things and instill in them a sense that they have the skill and know-how to" produce anything in their life with their own two hands. Limited by the reduction of class hours, it has become increasingly difficult to show the students involved the fun and enjoyment of building things. With that in mind, my research has been centered on designing a three-year curriculum where, despite these restrictions, we can still produce students that have skills in, knowledge of, and appreciation for the industrial arts. In the first year, a foundation is laid by having the students learn the basic skills and techniques of the industrial arts by building custom tissue box holders. During the second year elective industrial arts class, students continue to develop their skills through the construction of custom-specification benches. Finally, in the third year, students are expected to make use of the skills they have learned in the prior two years by coming up with and producing a final project of their choosing, thus culminating in the students acquisition of a true competence in the industrial arts. Following this plan, I believe that the goal of turning out skilled, knowledgeable students is easily attainable.
