Abstract
Since electric phenomena are invisible, they are not correctly understood by students, and rarely do they arouse students' interest. It is especially difficult to understand the phenomenon that is explained through two or more stages. An induction motor, currently used most frequently in our daily life, is of this type. The principle, which is explained by the law of electromagnetic induction and electromagnetic force, seems to be difficult for students to understand. In this paper, two teaching materials are proposed. One is a rotation model using an aluminum can with a diameter of 6.5cm and a magnet. The other is a shading coil type induction motor; using this; two-dimensional magnetic field analysis was carried out by the finite element method. The alternating current flowing through the coil was forced at the electric angle of 5-degree intervals, and the magnetic flux distribution was calculated. The flux distribution is converted to the arrow vectors. The change of the flux vector distribution across one period of alternating current was indicated using an animated display.
Moreover, another display for the non-shading coil case was also made for comparison. By comparing these, students understood the function of shading coil and the image of a rotating magnetic field.

Title: A Study of Skill Training Methodology for Setup Operations on a Pallet -Skill Training in Two-Dimensional Allocation of Workpieces-
Author: Kazumasa OHASHI
題目:パレット上での段取作業の訓練法に関する研究―加工部品の2次元配置訓練法―
著者:大橋和正
Abstract
The setup operations for setting workpieces on a pallet is manually implemented with jigs and fixtures before the metal-removal operations in a machining center. This setup is not such an easy operation since it depends on the skilled worker's experience. Hence , it is necessary to train unskilled workers to enhance their capabilities for the setup operations through the repetition of effective training. This paper describes the skill training methodology for effectively performing the setup operations. The capacity of training effort is defined as the amount of resources relative to training effort for skill acquisition, and the effective skill training was executed under the minimization of the total capacity of training effort. It was verified that the proposed skill training methodology was useful for enhancing the capability of the setup operations.

Title: Development of Computer Control Educational Tools with the USB Interface
Author: Hiroshi KAMEYAMA, Masahiko TOTSYKA
題目:USBインターフェースを備えた制御教材の開発
著者:亀山寛・戸塚雅彦
Abstract
By using the USB interface, we could develop new educational computer control tools and the software with which one can control the 8 bits outputs on Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Those computer control tools correspond to the hot plug and the plug-and-play. At the same times, we developed the ActiveX program thus making it possible for pupils control the on-off of LED with the easy program of Visual Basic. Using these USB control tools and software, the computer control education, which is described in text books and the Course of Study for Technology Education, can be carried out in the lessons on "Information and Computer" using Windows 2000

Title: Production and Evaluation of the Small Wood Lathe as a Teaching Material for Manufacturing in Junior High School

題目:中学生による小型木工旋盤の製作とその評価

Abstract
A small desktop wood lathe was developed as a teaching material of "Technology
and Manufacturing" for technology education in junior high schools.
The lathe can only shave soft wood since it is powered by a small DC motor
whose torque is too small to shave other materials such as metal. It can,
however, be used successfully as a graver for pupils in elementary schools
in place of expensive cutting tools. Further, it can be used as a systematic
teaching material since students are able to learn knowledge and skills
about woodwork, metalwork, electricity, machinery, and the history of technology.
The self-evaluations of their skills and emotions in producing the lathe
were found to be quite high. Thus, it was proved that the lathe developed
in this study is a good teaching material for technology education for
students in junior high schools.

Abstract
The present study investigated kindergarteners, cognition of vegetables
using interviews. Kindergarteners recognized 12-16 kinds of vegetables.
For the 3 year-old children, the cognition of carrots and corn was high
in degree , and for the 4 year-olds that of eggplants was high. For the
5 year-olds, the cognition of watermelons was high. It could be said that
these vegetables characterize the cognition of vegetables for each age
group. The portion of a sunflower to sprinkle changed with age; the lower
the age, the greater the portion of "flower" was sprinkled. It
was surmised that although physiological questions such as "Why does
a cabbage become large?" was difficult, they came to rationally think
by relating them to their direct experiences" such as potato digging
etc..

Title: A Micro-Controller(PIC) and Its Control Programs as Learning Materials
Author: Kazuo KAWADA, Shoichiro FUJISAWA, Toru YAMAMOTO
題目:教材化のためのマイクロコントローラ(PIC)とその制御用プログラム

Abstract
The rapid progress of the information industry is remarkable, and miniaturization and low-pricing of the computer has developed further. As one kind of micro-controller, a PIC(Peripheral Interface Controller) is currently attractive, in which the CPU, program memory, data memory, communication interface, and I/0 ports are integrated in an IC. Since it is relatively easy to control many peripheral equipments by using the PIC, the PIC has been embedded in many domestic electrical appliances. The study of the PIC and the control programs is suitable and effective for learning about hardware, software, and measurement and control in information science and technology education. In this paper, the composition and some functions of the PIC are explained, followed by some control programs.
