Abstract
A personal-computer aided wood identification
system has been developed.
This system can identify the kind of woods
that were excavated from ruins and non-buried
wooden cultural assets, etc.
The main functions of the shell program are
as follows: to retrieve the date base for
identification of the wood, to display the
features of woods and to update the registrated
data and miscellaneous functions of the shell
program are as follows: three-section microscope
photograph display, the display of "Characteristic
to be selected next", the print of the
retrieved result, and the print of the characteristic
item. Multiple entry system rather than Dichotomous
system is adopted for the retrieval method.
The retriever can operate interactively by
means of GUI Graphieal User Interface. Besides,
all the communication and data access are
performed via pop-up window display, so that
the retrieval and update of the data are
easy. Therefore, it is possible to retrieve
without any special knowledge of the computer.
Thirty-nine taxa of soft wood with 45 features
and 180 taxa of hard wood with 92 features
are registered as a major Japanese wood.
This system may be used in the wood education.

Title: Application of a FIR-type Neural Network
to the Prediction
Author: Junji FURUYA, Masaaki NISHI
題目:FIR形ニューラルネットワークの予測への応用
著者:降矢順治, 西 正明
Abstract
This paper presents a FR-type neural network
to predict time series as a nonlinear predictive
method. We derive a learning algorithm of
this neural network and apply it to the prediction
of the time series signals which are obtained
from a Mackey-Glass nonlinear differential
delay equation. With the delay constant
of this equation at 17 and 30, we investigated
one-point predictions and two-point predictions
as the short term and investigated how far
we could predict the future as long term
predictions. It is shown that the FIR-type
neural network is superior to the ordinary
backpropagation neural network from the point
of view of predication accuracy and also
higher prediction accuracy.

Title: An Analysis of Collaborative Learning
Process on Students' Computer Programming
Author: Jun MORIYAMA
題目:プログラミングにおける共同学習過程の分析
著者:森山 潤
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify
the cognitive effects of collaborative learning
on students' computer programming. Twenty-four
3rd grades Jr. highschool students (12 male
and 12 female) were divided into 2 groups
learning Logo programming. One was collaborative
learning group (pair), and the other was
indivisually learning group. The level of
reflection of thinking process and the relative
interaction in the collaborating pair were
analyzed. "The Reflection Scale of Thinking
Process on Computer Programming"(MORIYAMA
et.al 1996) and the modified LUTE (Link-UniT-Element)model(MORIMOTO
et.al 1997) were used for measuring the level
of reflection and analyzing the interaction,
respectively.
The results of analysis were as follows:
(1)The level of reflection of thinking process
in the pair leaning group was higher than
that in the indivisual learning group. (2)In
the pair learning group, the role of operation
and the role of planning was shared. (3)Students'
meta-cognition (self-monitoring and self-control)
supplemented each other through the interaction
of collaborative learning.

Title: Development of Teaching Materials
of Simple and Variable Constant-Current Source
for Negative Feedback Control Instruction
Author: Hiroshi SHIRAHAMA, Kiyonobu KUSANO
題目:簡易可変型定電流電源の教材・教具化に向けて
著者:白浜 博, 草野清信
Abstract
This paper discusses the development of beginner
level teaching materials for NFB (negative
feed back) control instruction. Specially,
a constant-current source with four operational
amplifiers (op-amps) is proposed. This current-source
has been devised to facilitate a constant-current
supply and to simplify the analysis of circuit
performance and characteristic as compared
with one proposed in our previous study.
All the components except power supply are
mounted on a relatively large single printed
circuit board to provide features for easy
understanding of the circuit configuration
and ease of experimental performance. This
type of support can provide the students
with instructional features of both a power
source and a NFB control. In the present
paper a detailed analysis of its constant-current
characteristic and the permissible operating
range is also described. The range of ale
circuit is theoretically obtained and experimentally
tested out. The resulting the calculated
and measured values of the characteristics
agrees well. In addition the constant-current
source is applied not only to measure the
characteristics of several semiconductor
devices, but also develop the faculty of
design methods of NFB control circuit with
op-amps. Students can reinforce their theoretical
knowledge of NFB control principles with
this simple experiment.

Title: A Study on the Transition of Students'
Emotional Image in Manufacturing Learning
Author: Kimihito TAKENO, Masashi MATSUURA
題目:製作学習における生徒の感情的イメージの変容に関する研究
著者:岳野公人, 松浦正史
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate
how getting students involved in manufacturing
learning can influence on their emotional
images and discuss some issues on the transition
of their emotional images through the learning
experience. In this study, the SD (Semantic
Differential method) was used to obtain students'
images of manufacturing working including
concept design, sawing and assembling. In
order to see the transition of their images,
we conducted the survey before and after
the works. Results of the survey indicated
that the students had unfavorable images
of the concept design and that group learning
brought about more cooperative images in
manufacturing learning.

Title: On Teaching Materials of Tensile Fractured
Surface by Heat Treatment of Carbon Steel
Author: Hashime SHIMURA
題目:炭素鋼の熱処理による引張破断面の教材化について
著者:志村 元
Abstract:
A special feature of carbon steel is that
the mechanical properties can be improved
by adjusting carbon content, heat treatment
and cold working. The fundamental mechanical
property can be obtained by a tensile test.
Moreover, from the tensile fractured surface,
much information on the origin and mechanism
of fractures can be discovered. For these
reasons, tensile fractured surfaces are useful
training aids. In this paper, 6 different
heat treatments resulting in tensile fractures
were carried out to demonstrate to trainees
the most appropriate heat treatments.
Keywords: Carbon steel, Heat treatment, Tensile
test, Fracture surface.
